TUZZOLO LATEST RAM TO WIN A-10 DEFENSIVE HONOR

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior opposite Gina Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va.) has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, one day after she led VCU to its biggest win of the season.

On Sunday, Tuzzolo recorded 10 blocks, including three in the fifth set tiebreaker, and added nine kills to help lift VCU at Dayton, a victory that clinched the Rams' third straight A-10 regular season title.

Tuzzolo also registered six blocks, as well as 14 kills, while hitting .520, on Friday in a five-set, come-from-behind win at Saint Louis Friday. For the week, she averaged 1.60 blocks per set.

The Newport News, Va. native ranks eighth in the conference at 1.06 blocks per set. She has also provided 2.60 kills per set this season, while hitting .291, for the Black and Gold.

Tuzzolo is the fourth Ram to win Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining seniors Jasmin Sneed (San Antonio, Texas), Madalon Simpson (Louisville, Ky.) and Jaelyn Jackson (South Chesterfield, Va.).

VCU will be the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming A-10 Tournament Nov. 22-24 in Kingston, R.I. The Rams will face either George Washington or La Salle on Saturday, Nov. 23.
