The short story: VCU will play for the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season crown. The Rams, following a dramatic, come-from-behind win at Saint Louis, will face Dayton on Sunday in a winner-take-all match for the league's regular season title.

OPENING VOLLEY

  • Senior outside hitter Vicky Giommarini (Rome, Italy) and senior opposite Gina Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va.) combined for six kills in the fifth set to help VCU complete its comeback. Giommarini finished with a match-high 17 kills
  • Tuzzolo finished with 14 kills and six blocks for the Black and Gold
  • Redshirt senior middle blocker Jaelyn Jackson supplied eight kills and six blocks, while hitting .636 for VCU
  • Senior libero Madalon Simpson (Louisville, Ky.) served up five aces for VCU
  • Sien Gallop and Maya Taylor led the Billikens with 11 kills each

THE DIFFERENCE

  • Giommarini erupted for 12 kills on 23 swings in the final three sets to spark the comeback. She committed just one error over that stretch
  • Despite the close final score, VCU did not trail in any of the last three sets
  • The Rams hit .397 in the match, including a remarkable .508 combined in the last three frames. VCU had just five hitting errors in the final three sets combined
  • VCU outblocked the Billikens 12-1
  • The Rams scored four of the first five points in the fifth set and pushed ahead 8-4 on a kill by redshirt senior middle Kat Young (Chantilly, Va.). A pair of Giommarini kills a short time later stretched the VCU lead to 12-7

NOTABLE

  • VCU used Friday's win to keep pace with Dayton. Both teams are now 13-0 in A-10 play heading into Sunday's showdown
  • The Rams extended their win streak to 16 straight matches
  • Saint Louis' win in the first set snapped VCU's streak of 34 straight set victories
  • VCU is 43-2 against A-10 competition the past three seasons, including 40-1 in the regular season
