RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Volleyball has signed junior college transfer Sydney Vanitvelt (Grand Blanc, Mich./Mott CC), Rams Head Coach Jody Rogers announced Tuesday.

"Sydney is extremely athletic with a great deal of experience directing traffic in the back court," said Rogers. "Her maturity and leadership qualities will enable her to make an easy transition to our style of play as a Ram in 2017."
A 5-foot-5 libero, Vanitvelt joins VCU following two standout seasons at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan. In 2016, Vanitvelt ranked 10th among National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II players in digs per set (6.03). Her 615 total digs ranked 20th nationally. Vanitvelt recorded 30 or more digs in a match six times last season, including a season-high 44 on Sept. 2 against Sinclair. She recorded 634 digs as a freshman in 2015.
For her efforts, Vanitvelt was named Second Team All-Conference. She was also presented with an MCC Commitment to Service award and received a pair of Dean's List citations.
A three-year starter at Grand Blanc High School, Vanitvelt was twice named Team MVP. She also earned All-League and All-Region honors.
Vanitvelt joins a VCU team that finished 19-14 last season and returns its entire starting lineup.
