VCU Men's Track and Field in Fourth Place After Day One of Atlantic 10 Track Field Championships

MEET: Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship (Irwin Track and Field Center - Charlotte, N.C.)

THE BASICS: VCU concluded day one of the Outdoor Track and Field Championship and are tied for fourth place with Saint Joseph's with a score of 22 points. After one day, Rhode Island leads the event with 73 points.


  • In the javelin throw, senior Kenneth Wooten had a personal record of 58.37-meter toss, placing third.
  • Senior Frank Afriyie recorded a 48.96-meter toss in the hammer throw, placing sixth.
  • VCU placed fourth through sixth in the discus throw. Leading the way was sophomore Ryan Coles, who placed fourth, with a toss of 48.67 meters. The throw set a personal record for Coles. In fifth place was sophomore Brandon Ruffin with a toss of 47.54 meters, while Afriyie placed sixth with a toss of 46.62 meters.
  • After competing in the first half of the decathlon, freshman Xavier Waller placed eighth in the high jump with a leap of 1.94-meters. The jump was a tenth of a meter off his personal-best.
  • In the prelims, senior Tyler Jackson qualified for the 100-meter dash with a time personal-best time of 10.87 seconds.
  • Sophomore Tehquin Warrick placed fourth in the 400-meter prelims, qualifying for the finals with a personal-best run of 48.08 seconds.
  • Freshman Kyle Martin and sophomore Christopher Smith qualified for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles. Martin posted a time of 14.77 seconds, while Smith ran a personal-best time of 15.35 seconds.
  • After one day of the decathlon, sophomore Evan Morton is in fourth place with a score of 3,281 points. Waller is in seventh with a score of 2,160 points.

VCU concludes the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow, May 5, in Charlotte, N.C.
