RICHMOND, Va. – VCU's Mario Sequeira was honored with the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of Week award, announced by the league on Monday, after registering eight total saves in matches against Saint Louis and George Washington this past week. This marked the second straight week and third time this season Sequeira has earned this award.
Sequeira, a sophomore goalkeeper from Costa Rica, played a huge role in the 0-0 tie in double overtime against Saint Louis on Wednesday, as he recorded six saves. On Saturday, Sequeira tallied two more saves in a 2-1 victory over George Washington.
In A-10 play, Sequeira ranks first in save percentage with .941. Additionally, Sequeira has logged eight total clean sheets in seven of the eight victories and in the one tie the Rams have this season. He looks to improve on those statistics against George Mason on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
