RICHMOND, Va. – Explosive guard Tyler Maye (Farmville, N.C./Farmville Central) has signed with VCU, Rams' Coach Mike Rhoades announced Wednesday. Maye revealed his choice publicly Wednesday morning during a ceremony at his high school in Farmville, North Carolina.

"Our team and staff are excited to welcome Tyler to our family," Rhoades said. "He's a gym rat who plays fast with very good skill. He makes plays on both ends of the court. We can't wait to get him and his classmates on campus soon to get to work."
A 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard, Maye averaged 36 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game this season for Farmville Central. A three-star recruit, Maye picked VCU over interest from Nebraska, Kansas State, Dayton, East Carolina and others.
As a junior, Maye poured in 25 points a game for Farmville Central and led the Jaguars to a 28-0 record and the North Carolina 2A State Championship. For his efforts, he was named tournament MVP. Maye once scored 51 points in a single game.
Maye is one of six newcomers slated to suit up for the Rams in 2017-18. He joins incoming freshmen Marcus Santos-Silva, Sean Mobley and Lewis Djonkam, as well as transfers Marcus Evans (Rice) and Khris Lane (Longwood).
VCU finished 26-9 last season and reached the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive year.
