ANN SHEEHY HURDLES HER WAY PAST 57 COMPETITORS

The Short Story:  Ann Sheehy took second overall in the women's 400 meter hurdles to bring VCU their best finish of the day. The Rams' point total is at 20.5, leaving them in 11th place among 49 schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sheehy beat out 57 other competitors to add eight points to the Rams' effort. The junior, who ranks second in the conference behind teammate De'Nisha Smith, ran a 1:01.68.
  • Candice James split the sixth place spot in the 200 meter, collecting 5.5 points for the Rams with a 24.34 personal best time. Taylor Watkins and Kayla Smith also broke personal records and earned a collective six points by placing 8th and 10th, respectively.
  • In the University division, Senior Amiaya Carey won the high jump, topping 16 other competitors. Carey's 1.65m height was the best she's cleared since the indoor conference championships.
  • On Thursday, Samantha Yankson grabbed a point for the Rams in hammer throw. The sophomore recorded a 43.18m mark and placed eighth.  

Up Next

The Rams won't compete in the final day of the Colonial Relays, and instead will return home to rest for the George Mason Invitational next Saturday, April 14.
