Meet: Bulls Invitational (Day two of two)
Location: Tampa, Fla.
The Short Story: VCU closed out the second day of the Bulls Invitational with sophomore Ashley Brown taking a win in the 800 meter run and a host of Rams setting new personal bests.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown came away with a win in the 800 meter run. The Henrico, Va. native topped a field of 62 runners, and crossed the finish line in 2:13.22. Coming in at 2:14.97 was fellow Ram Ashley Greenlee, good enough for fifth.
Sophomore Delaney Savedge pulled out a second overall finish in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a 11:59.36 time.
Makayla McGowan achieved a third place finish in the shot put, setting a new personal best with a 14.75m mark. Another thrower doing damage was junior Denise O'Rourke. Or'Rourke landed the fourth spot among 25 competitors in discus with a 45.99m mark.
Kayla Smith had an excellent showing in the 400 meter. The sophomore recorded a new personal best of 54.35, giving her a third place finish among 41 competitors. Also breaking personal records in the 400 were Candice James and Taylor Watkins. James' time was 55.67, while Watkins ran a 55.77. The pair of juniors placed sixth and seventh, respectively.
VCU's 4x400 meter relay team placed second after recording a 3:41.32 time, their best so far this season. The women's B team earned a sixth place finish in a field of 17 teams.
LeClare Beres finished up the heptathlon in fourth place with a total point count of 4319.
VCU returns to Richmond to compete in the Fred Hardy Relays taking place Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31.
