RICHMOND, Va. – VCU track and field junior Nichelle Scott has been selected to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds in Lexington, Kentucky. The event is scheduled to run from Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27.

Scott qualified for the east region preliminary in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.78. The junior posted the time at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships to finish second in the event. Scott is seeded 39th.

In order to qualify for the preliminary competitions, an athlete must declare to compete in the competition as well as hold a top-48 time in the region for his or her event.  

In order to advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Scott must place in the top 12 in the 800-meter run at the preliminary competition.

It has been a remarkable year for the Chester, Virginia native. Scott has broken two school records in the 800-meter run. She broke the indoor record at the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 2:08.41. The outdoor record was shattered at the A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships when Scott set her NCAA Regional qualifying pace of 2:07.78.
