RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Lacrosse head coach Jen O'Brien has announced the Rams' 2019 slate which features a home game against ACC opponent Notre Dame as well as 10 games at Cary Street Field.
VCU enters only its fourth season of play and has shown dramatic improvement each season. The Rams qualified for their first Atlantic 10 Tournament last season after posting a 5-4 record in the A-10. It marked the first winning conference record for the program and O'Brien was named the A-10 Co-Coach of the Year. VCU also snapped Massachusetts' NCAA record 61-game conference winning streak.
The Rams return its top three players in total points from last season including three-time All-Atlantic 10 selection in Sky Hyatt who scored a team-leading 51 goals last season while adding nine assists. VCU also returns Molly Barcikowski, an All-Atlantic 10 Second Team selection last year, who was second on the team in scoring 36 goals and added a team-high 24 assists last season. Keriann McTavish is back after ranking third on the team in goals (21), assists (19) and total points (40) in 2018.
"We are extremely excited about our schedule this spring, especially for this senior class. With the leadership on this team, we know we can expect a strong start. Our non-conference schedule has a great balance to showcase our strengths as well as challenge us early on to prepare for Atlantic 10 play. This team has set high expectations for themselves and each other. We are really looking forward to building off of each game so we are playing our best lacrosse in April. This is a year we have been building toward for this program and managing the ups and downs through season will be imperative. We have the utmost confidence in our preparation to make sure this season is as rewarding as possible for this 2018-2019 team," O'Brien said.
The Rams begin their season at home against Old Dominion (Feb. 13), the first of three home games VCU will play to start the season. After facing the Monarchs, the Rams will face UMBC (Feb. 16) and Longwood (Feb. 27).
