BERES IN THIRD PLACE THROUGH FIRST DAY OF HEPTATHLON

The Short Story: Junior LeClare Beres kicked things off for VCU at the Bulls Invitational with an admirable start to the women's heptathlon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Beres closed out her night by winning the 200 meter and adding 885 points to her heptathlon total. Her 25.02 time was a personal best. Beres also grabbed points with a second place 100 meter hurdles finish, fifth in shot put, and seventh in high jump. Three heptathlon events will take place Friday. As it stands, Beres is in third place with 2756 points.
  • Freshman Courtney Higgins also participated in the heptathlon and came away with a sixth placed shot put finish. Higgins has 1867 points.
  • On the men's side, Marcus Finnie jumped to a personal best 7.16m in the long jump, putting the senior in fourth place. Finnie is currently the leading long jumper in the Atlantic 10.
  • Freshman Ebenezer Belayneh earned a sixth place finish in the discus throw. A 41.59m was a new best mark.

The Rams will compete in the second and final day of the Bulls Invitational. Events are scheduled to resume at 10 a.m.
